I received my M.Sc. in computer science in 2000 and my doctoral degree in 2003 from the Vienna University of Technology. Since 1998, I am passionate about algorithms for retrieving and automatically organizing information and using them to create meaningful real world applications. In 2001, I started designing and implementing my first search engine for a tourism information system using natural language processing technologies and ontologies. I also developed a comprehensive neurocomputing toolkit (http://www NULL.ifs NULL.tuwien NULL.ac NULL.at/dm/somtoolbox/index NULL.html) for data clustering and visualization, which is available as open source software from the Vienna University of Technology.

After my work at a center for applied research in the area of e-Commerce, which also included giving several lectures at the university, I was co-founder of a Vienna-based startup developing 3D virtual world solutions for real estate applications. In my roles as senior researcher and member of the Professional Services team at a patent information services provider, I learned a lot about the intellectual property domain and about patent data and searching, which was the perfect playground for developing innovative data management and search applications using technologies such as Lucene and CouchDB among many others. Currently, I am putting all my energy into max-recall information systems (http://www NULL.max-recall NULL.com), a company dedicated to developing search and text analytics solutions that really help users finding relevant information.

Over the years, I have accumulated over 60 scientific publications, gained experience in running national and international research projects, reviewed for major scientific journals and conferences and organized several scientific workshops. I love Lucene/Solr, growing tomatoes and really hot peppers, neural networks, roses and clematis, cutting-edge open source projects and horticulture in general.

If you are interested in commercial search and text analytics solutions and consulting, send me an e-mail (m NULL.dittenbach null@null max-recall NULL.com) or call the max-recall (http://www NULL.max-recall NULL.com) phone number: +43 720 978603. I am also happy to answer e-mails regarding my research topics.
